LCM Commits to Patient Safety as they Embark on the Journey toward High Reliability

Little Company of Mary Hospital and Health Care Centers (LCMH) has recently embarked on the Journey toward High Reliability. A High Reliability Organization (HRO) is an organization that has succeeded in avoiding catastrophes in their environment.


According to the Joint Commission, the road to high reliability is an ongoing journey and is a commitment to patient safety and the way quality healthcare is delivered. The goal at Little Company of Mary is Mission Zero – meaning Zero Harm.


Most recently, this effort has been demonstrated through the Leapfrog Group Fall 2018 patient safety ratings. Designed to rate how well hospitals protect patients from accidents, errors, injuries and infections, the latest Leapfrog safety score honored LCMH with an improved “B” Grade. Additionally, Little Company of Mary has earned multiple quality achievements in 2018 for stroke care, heart care, breast health, and more. These include two Women’s Choice Awards for Stroke and Breast care, U.S. News & World Report recognition as a Best Hospital in both Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and Heart Failure and two American Heart Association awards for heart attack and stroke.

On Friday, November 16th, Little Company of Mary’s Clinical Excellence Team acknowledged these recent milestones and the hospital’s commitment to patient safety with an organization-wide celebration
