Philosophy of Care:
My philosophy for care is that the patient is and always will be my first priority. I believe in treating not only the disease process but also the patient as a whole person along with the support of his/her family and friends. I firmly believe my patients should always be treated as individuals with kindness, respect and dignity. I listen to my patients and really try to get an understanding of their needs.
Why did you decide to become a doctor?
In high school, I always liked my science courses and so I decided to major in biology in college. I spent some time working in a laboratory, but found it wasn't for me. I wanted to do something that was more gratifying and would make a difference in people's lives. Becoming a physician was the natural career choice for me.
Great patient story:
After a minimally invasive procedure, my patients are often quite surprised of how little pain they feel and how quickly they are able to return to normal activity.
What is your proudest moments as a doctor?
The first time I performed a surgery in training. The patient was a young girl and the procedure was a simple appendectomy, which is often the first procedure for many surgeons. However, when I saw how much better she felt after surgery, I felt such a sense of accomplishment and knew I had amade a difference in her life. This experience really inspired me to further my surgical training and continue to grow and learn.?
Work/Life balance?
I love my job as a surgeon and caring for my patients and I also have a family. Balancing work and family is hard, especially in the early days of my training. These days, my young son lets me know when he wants attention!
