What is your philosophy of care?

I believe in empowering patients to take control of their health.  To that end, I enjoy explaining patient’s medical conditions and helping my patients find resources to improve their health. I believe in partnering with my patients to maximize their health. I think one of the most important things in maintaining good health is having a good relationship with your doctor.  I love being a family doctor because I have the opportunity to establish long term relationships with my patients and their families.  It is always and honor and a privilege when a patient trusts me and feels comfortable sharing their concerns.

Why did you want to become a doctor?

Since I got my first “doctor’s bag” as a birthday present, and held that toy stethoscope, I knew I wanted to be a doctor.  I volunteered at local hospitals in high school and college, and what drew me to Family Medicine was the relationships patients had with their family doctors and the impact that relationship had.  I have found Family Medicine to be incredibly rewarding and I can’t imagine doing anything that I would enjoy more.

What are your sub-specialties and health interests in regard to your patients?

I am very interested in women’s heath and preventive medicine.  I think one of the most important things in maintaining good health is to live a healthy lifestyle and to prevent problems before they occur.

How to you maintain a healthy work/life balance?

I subscribe to the philosophy of working hard and playing hard. I work hard to be a great physician for my patients, and I work just as hard at being a good daughter, aunt and friend. I try to spend as much time as I can with family & friends, doing things that I enjoy, and making the most of life outside of work.

What are your hobbies and interests outside the office?

I’m an avid reader and have been building my library at home for years.  My favorite activity on a rainy day is curling up with a good book.  I also enjoy boxing, cooking, and shopping.

Dr. Kimberly Johnson, M.D., Family Medicine

Why did you decide to become a physician?
I feel like it was my calling. I knew at an early age I wanted to make a change in the lives of others by taking care of them and keeping them healthy. As I got older and considered all the other career possibilities that were available, I kept coming back to the medical profession.

How did you choose your specialty?
Being able to take care of an individual from their first day of life up until their old age is an amazing thing. Because of the wide age range of individuals to care for, there is never a dull moment.

What do you enjoy most about being a physician?
Each day is different. Each day brings on new challenges. Knowing that I am able to make a positive change in someone’s life is an amazing feeling to have, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

What is your philosophy of care?
We are a team. In order to achieve the best result we have to work together.

If you hadn’t become a physician, what would you be doing?
I’m not sure; I can’t imagine doing anything else.

What are your hobbies and interests outside of the office?
I love spending time with family and friends, reading, and dancing.
