Medical Care for Homebound Patients
Mobile Medical Care is a community outreach program offering medical care by a Little Company of Mary physician and licensed nurse directly in patient's homes. For the past 20 years, the program has been bringing medical care to the frail, weak, homebound individual unable to travel to a physician's office. With Mobile Medical personnel, patients receive their necessary services in the comfort and safety of their home surroundings. A doctor and a nurse visit each patient every three months, or more often if necessary. Patients can receive a thorough medical history and exam, injections (such as vitamin B12, flu, and pneumonia vaccines), prescriptions, checks of oxygen saturation levels, blood draws for lab analysis, arrangements for medical equipment and even an EKG.
The team offers a service that is vital to many who may not otherwise have access to medical care, because of health problems that limit their mobility. The team makes more than 1,500 visits a year and received the 2009 Sister Nancy Boyle Award for their devotion and compassion in caring for the sick. Mobile Medical Care upholds the mission of the Sisters of Little Company of Mary, providing the personal care for which Little Company of Mary is known.
