Philosophy of Care:

I believe in comprehensive, family centered health care, with an emphasis on health maintenence.  More than a prescription, I help patients understand their illnesses, treatment options, and prevention strategies. I encourage patients to assume an active role in their health. I am dedicated to creating a pleasant environment where my patients feel comfortable discussing their personal concerns and questions. I believe that patients and medical staff flourish in an environment in which the relationship is based on mutual respect, trust and compassion. I strive to provide high quality medical care to the community.

Why did you become a doctor?

I always knew that I wanted to become a doctor. My fascination with the science and function of the human body led me to study biology in college, and then advance to medical school. I decided to become a family medicine physician for very personal reasons. My father had a severe stroke when I was younger which left him permanently paralyzed and unable to speak. My father was not overweight, nor did he have any other risk factors such as diabetes, hypertension, or high cholesterol. He did, however, smoke and had a family history of heart disease. Has his physician counseled him properly regarding his risk factors, would this horrible life-changing event have happened? This led me to a career in family medicine, where I could educate patients about their diseases and actually prevent these tragic events from occurring.

Work/Life balance?

I take my profession very seriously and work hard to excel in it.  On the other hand, I value and respect the family as a unit and everything it stands for.  I try to spend my free time with my family and friends....it is something I truly cherish!

Special Interests/Hobbies?

I enjoy yoga and pilates, reading, cooking, shopping and spending time with my family and friends.

Main Interests:

  • Preventative Medicine
  • Diabetes
  • Asthma
  • Hypertension
  • Nutrition/Weight Management
  • Pediatric/Adolescent Health

Philosophy of Care:

I believe in partnering with patients to provide quality healthcare.  I feel my greatest role as a healthcare provider is not only to manage diseases, but to empower patients by educating them and having them take control of their health.  Therefore, my patients can be models of health to their families and communities.  Just as my patients have a unique role in society, I believe they have individual, personal concerns when it comes to their healthcare.  I approach each patient in a holistic manner.  I believe it is vital to care for the physical state, but also to understand the social and emotional needs.

Why did you become a doctor?

I value education and health, and medicine allows me the opportunity to combine both while making a difference in people's lives.  I also enjoy interacting with a diverse group of people and building working relationships.  Family medicine lets me make and sustain those doctor-patient connections with patients throughout all stages of life.

Work/Life balance:

I am truly blessed to be doing something I care about, but I firmly believe in a work-life balance.  I work hard yet play hard which enables me to have a healthy mentality that keeps my passion going to come to work everyday and provide the best possible care to patients.

Special Interests/Hobbies:

Outside of work, I love to spend time with my family and friends.  I also enjoy going to new restaurants, shopping, and dancing.  And I am a TV junkie - I love watching anything from the news to sports, talk shows to crime dramas, and of course, reality TV!

Call today to schedule an appointment at 708.422.7100. Dr. Chen is usually able to accommodate same day appointments.

Why did you decide to become a doctor?

I have always had the strong desire to help those around me. Practicing medicine allows me to do this to the fullest extent.

How do you maintain a healthy work/life balance?

I have a career that I truly enjoy and I surround myself with people I love. It really doesn't get much better than that!

Sub-specialties and health interests in regard to your patients:

Adolescent health has always been a passion of mine. I think that all patients should know at least the basics when it comes to how our bodies function. This education should begin in the adolescent years. I love to spend time educating patients and I pride myself in taking the time to answer their questions, so that they leave the office well informed.
