Image-Guided Procedures and Interventional Radiology
Little Company of Mary's Diagnostic Imaging Department specializes in image-guided procedures. Using imaging technology, we are able to perform a wide range of procedures to diagnose and treat common as well as rare disorders. Interventional radiology procedures often let you avoid surgery. In fact, at Little Company of Mary, we are able to treat some disorders with interventional radiology for which there is no surgical alternative.
Some of the more common procedures are:
- Uterine artery embolization for treatment of symptomatic uterine fibroids
- Vertebroplasty for treatment of compression fractures of the spime
- Angioplasty and stents for treatment of blockages of the arteries to the kidneys, or blockages related to otherperipheral vascular disease.
Little Company found an answer for many of the 25 million people suffering from symptoms associated with superficial venous insufficiency and varicose veins. Danilo J. Martinez, M.D., is board certified in diagnostic radiology with subspecialty board certification in vascular and interventional radiology. He performs minimally invasive, targeted treatments using imaging for guidance, including uterine artery embolization, angioplasty, image-guided oncologic and nononcologic therapies, biopsies and the VNUS Closure® procedure. Closure is a minimally invasive procedure that treats the underlying cause of varicose veins and venous reflux--with little or no pain.
The Closure procedure is an outpatient (day surgery) treatment. Using an endovascular approach and VNUS' patented advanced radio-frequency technology, the Closure system occludes veins thereby eliminating reflux.
Procedures are performed, when indicated, following consultation with one of our interventional radiologists. Full pre-operative, anesthesia, recovery and observation facilities are available as needed.
Our doctors are subspecialty certified in Interventional Radiology by the American Board of Radiology. We have a dedicated staff of nurses and technologists who work exclusively in the interventional suites. Our imaging equipment is the finest available, and is completely state-of-the-art. We have centralized scheduling and communications to make sure the patient's experience is well-coordinated and hassle-free.
