As we anticipate the celebration of Little Company of Mary Hospital’s 85th anniversary, we look back at the many years of compassionate care offered to our community and anticipate the years and memories yet to come.

Just as the statue of Mary stood watching over the community in the tenth-floor niche of the 1929 Tower Building bringing comfort to all of those passing 95th Street, we welcome the arrival of a new Maternal Heart of Mary statue which will stand in the center of the newly constructed West Pavilion circle drive welcoming our patients and staff each day.  This new arrival brings much excitement as we continue to serve our community for many years to come.

The creative process of bringing this Maternal Heart of Mary statue into being started in the studios of Inspired Artisans, Ltd, a Milwaukee firm which specializes in custom religious furnishings and sacred/liturgical art.  Gianfrano Tassara, principle at Inspired Artisans, helped guide the design process of the 4-foot tall clay figure (maquette) that served as the model for sculptors to carve the 6-ton, 12-foot tall Carrara marble statue that will be placed in the center of our circle drive.

As final hand-finishing touches are made, our Maternal Heart of Mary statue will be transported first by boat overseas from Carrara, Italy, then by ground transport from the East Coast before her arrival to Little Company of Mary.  Her voyage to Evergreen Park is yet another milestone in LCMH history that allows us to connect our service with our faith-based culture and mission: “In solidarity with the Sisters of the Little Company of Mary, we are entrusted to serve the community through our ministry of Catholic Health Care. We are the empowered laity-the Greater Company of Mary. Rooted in a deep heritage of prayerful support of the sick and dying, we strive to enhance the sacredness of life and human dignity.”

As part of the 2015 Employee Giving Campaign, all will be invited to contribute to the legacy of the Maternal Heart of Mary statue. This coming season marks the start to this new campaign and will allow us to showcase an extraordinary piece of sacred art commissioned by the Province of the Sisters of the Little Company of Mary and made possible through the contributions of our generous LCM employees.
