Honoring Lisa Ling and LCM Mobile Medical Care, LCM Ball to Showcase the Great 'Works of the World'

EVERGREEN PARK, Ill. - December 5, 2008- Little Company of Mary Hospital Foundation will host the 19th Annual Crystal Heart Ball on Saturday, February 7, 2009, at the Field Museum. The museum, which features the popular exhibit: The Aztec World, is not the only ‘worldly' addition to this year's gala. Along with being the premier fundraiser for the Hospital, it also recognizes individuals and/or organizations for their outstanding accomplishments and service and will honor a special international contributor.

The Foundation announced the Venerable Mary Potter Humanitarian Award will be presented to Lisa Ling, Journalist, for her unwavering commitment to expose the hidden conflicts facing populations worldwide. Through her extraordinary journalism, Ling has traveled across the world to uncover critical situations that are generally unexposed. Her humanitarian efforts have generated global awareness to dangerous and hidden issues, and her continued commitment to expose worldwide challenges has made her an exemplary candidate for the award. The Mary Potter Humanitarian Award honors an individual whose personal and professional accomplishments embody the ideals, vision and mission of Venerable Mary Potter. The award is a testament to compassion, commitment and the gift of empowerment.

The Foundation also will present The Sister Nancy Boyle Award for Excellence to Little Company of Mary's Mobile Medical Care Program for their devotion and compassion to caring for the sick. Mobile Medical Care is a community outreach program offering medical care by a Little Company of Mary physician and licensed nurse directly in patient homes. Under the direction of Dr. John Hurley, medical director of Mobile Medical Care, the team offers a service that is vital to many who may not otherwise have access to medical care, because of health problems that limit their mobility.

Most of the five Mobile Medical Care physicians are retired from private practice, but continue to volunteer their time to serve this frail population. The team makes more than 1,500 visits a year and includes Dr. John Hurley, Dr. Samina Chaudhry, Dr. Delores Lulinski, Dr. Thomas Patricoski, Dr. Pauline Wong-Hugh, Chris Miller, R.N. and Janet Klonowksi, LPN. Mobile Medical Care upholds the mission of the Sisters of Little Company of Mary to pray and care for the sick and dying, providing the personal care that Little Company of Mary is known for and representing the spirit of Sister Nancy Boyle, L.C.M. The award is a tribute to an individual or program that embodies the legacy and life of Sister Nancy Boyle L.C.M, so that her spirit will live on and continue to inspire others.

Dr. and Mrs. Brian P. Farrell will chair this premier fundraising event along with their co-chairs, Ms. Theresa E. Mintle and Mr. Michael A. Toolis. Guests will enjoy a cocktail reception beginning at 6:30 p.m., followed by the award ceremony and a gourmet meal prepared by Blue Plate Catering. After dinner, guests will dance to the elegant music of The City Lights Orchestra and will have exclusive access to the special featured exhibit: The Aztec World.

In addition, the cash raffle grand prize has been increased to $15,000 as well as second prize to $5,000, third prize to $2,500, and fourth prize to $1,000. Raffle tickets are on sale for $100 each and winners do not have to be present.

The Crystal Heart Ball tickets are $300 per person and proceeds will benefit Values. Vision. Innovation: The Campaign for Little Company of Mary Hospital. Guests may purchase a Diamond table for $7,500 or a Heart of Gold Table for $5,000, each offering special benefits. Please contact the LCMH Foundation to purchase your raffle/event tickets at 708.229.5256.
