LCM partners with National Prostate Cancer Coalition to host Drive Against Prostate Cancer

Little Company of Mary Hospital and Health Care Centers joined The National Prostate Cancer Coalition (NPCC) to host the Drive Against Prostate Cancer, LLC, on April 22, screening approximately 650 area men in one day. Little Company of Mary Urologists Ron Bonaguro, M.D., Steven Pierpaoli, M.D., James Sylora, M.D., Robert Bonzani, M.D., and Mark Lyon, M.D., conducted the free screenings in two on-site buses that are a part of the only national mobile screening program for prostate cancer.

Owned by the Drive Against Prostate Cancer, LLC, the 39-foot mobile screening units offer a one-of-kind venue to screen men for the disease and educate them and their families about risk, annual early detection and clinical trials. The Drive screened nearly 3000 men throughout the Chicagoland area from April 21 to 26.

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer, excluding skin cancers, in American men and one in six men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during their lifetime according to the American Cancer Society. But despite this, prostate cancer is very treatable when caught in its early stages.

Little Company of Mary's Prostate Cancer Management Program offers the widest range of
prostate cancer treatment in the state of Illinois, including the robotic prostatectomy which minimizes the risk of urinary incontinence and sexual dysfunction. A new Web site published by Little Company of Mary (http://www.PursuingPainFreeCancer.org) encourages men to learn more about prostate cancer and to take a free confidential on-line risk test to evaluate their prostate cancer risk. The Web site's prostate cancer risk test evaluates a man's risk based on certain genetic and lifestyle factors that scientists believe affect one's prostate cancer risk.

Our cancer experts specialize in minimally invasive techniques and bring some of the most advanced cancer treatments available right to your neighborhood. These include advanced radiation therapy, cryotherapy, radioactive prostate implants, high dose rate prostate brachytherapy (HDR) and the da Vinci(r) robotic surgical system.
