Beverly Breast Cancer Walk Participants Embrace Downpour in
Support of the Fundraiser
Thousands of walkers turned out in support of the ninth annual Beverly Breast Cancer Walk despite the damp forecast which was declared as one of the 'rainiest' Mother's Day. That did not deter participants to help raise funds for the Comprehensive Breast Health Center at Little Company of Mary Hospital and Health Care Centers. Nearly everyone had a smile on their face and splashed their way through the three-mile route in Beverly.
The Walk began at Chicago's Ridge Park (96th and Longwood Drive) with a special blessing to honor those fighting the disease and those who have lost their battle. Dr. Olga Ivanov, Medical Director of the Comprehensive Breast Health Center at Little Company of Mary Hospital also extended her gratitude to the walkers. 'We are incredibly fortunate to have the Beverly Breast Cancer Walk supporting Little Company of Mary,' said Dr. Ivanov. 'Because of the generous donations, our new digital mammography machine has been an invaluable tool in the early detection of breast cancer. Since its inception in September 2007, it has already made an immense contribution in the screening and prevention of the disease. We are grateful to offer this technology to our patients.'
What started as a walk among a group of friends and family on Mother's Day has become a community-wide event that has raised more than a million dollars for Little Company of Mary's Comprehensive Breast Health Center, which offers women with breast cancer a multidisciplinary approach to their care. The Center features Dr. Olga Ivanov, the only fellowship-trained female breast surgeon in the area. She collaborates with both radiation and medical oncologists to provide comprehensive, compassionate care.
Little Company of Mary's Cancer Center is ranked in the top 27 percent of the nation's cancer programs accredited by the American College of Surgeons' Commission on Cancer. The Center offers highly skilled cancer specialists, the latest medical technologies for diagnosis and treatment, participation in clinical trials and a wide spectrum of support services. All cancer services are centered in a 33,000-square-foot state-of-the-art facility located on the Hospital campus.
