LCM Hosts event to kick-off plans for their new ‘Women's Center for Life and Health'
EVERGREEN PARK, Ill. -September 28, 2007- For more than two decades, Little Company of Mary Hospital and Health Care Centers has been a pioneer for improving women's health and even received national acknowledgment for their work from the American Hospital Association as early as mid-1980's. Striving to make health care as painless as possible, Little Company of Mary announced plans to create a beautiful new facility to house many of the women's services that have always been available to the women in the community. The new 'Women's Center for Life and Health' was announced at a special event held at the Hilton Oak Lawn on Tuesday, September 25.
Hundreds of area women learned of the Hospital's new endeavor at the first annual 'Girlfriend's Getaway,' an event dedicated solely to women's health. Director of Little Company of Mary's Health Education Centers Joan E. Murphy, R.N., Ph.D., announced plans for the new Center, which include a new, state-of-the-art inpatient facility for Little Company of Mary's legendary maternity services, known as The Family Birth Center. The Center also will feature outpatient services for women's bone health, pelvic floor health, breast health and preventive cardiac care .
'This is a very exciting time in Little Company of Mary's history,' said Dennis Reilly, president and CEO of Little Company of Mary. 'We are still developing our complete plans, however, pending Illinois regulators' approval, we anticipate breaking ground within 16 months.'
Keynote speaker and renowned women's self-help book author of the Girlfriend's Guide series Vicki Iovine flew in from California to start the evening. Iovine stressed the value of friendships and encouraged women to value themselves and their health as they would their children's. Iovine has appeared on 'Good Morning America,' 'The View,' and 'Oprah,' and writes several parenting columns for national magazines.
Following the keynote, women enjoyed educational breakout sessions led by experts on health topics pertaining to women. Little Company of Mary experts: Olga Ivanov, MD; Travis Haldeman, DO; and Holly Loesch, MD, led an interactive panel discussion that provided the latest information on topics vital to women's health.
Traci Powell, MD, psychiatrist, addressed common stress factors and issues facing women today and discussed techniques for women to minimize stress factors in their lives. In addition, plastic surgeon Roxanne Sylora, MD, physiatrist Mark Tracy, MD, and esthetician Krystl Pollino, discussed common questions women in all stages and age ranges have about their physical appearance, including a variety of treatment options for skin health. They also addressed physical pain that hinders a person's level of functioning and the available treatment options. Psychologist Chris Higgins discussed today's challenges facing parents and addressed the importance of a mother's happiness in raising a healthy and happy family.
