Women are at the heart of most health care decisions, especially those related to the care of their families and loved ones. Women's Services at Little Company of Mary takes that concept to heart.

On Tuesday, September 25th Little Company of Mary hosted the first annual Girlfriends Getaway event at the Hilton Oak Lawn. This event featured discussions on important health issues and keynote speaker Vicki Iovine, author of many books on womens health, including Girlfriends Guide to Staying Healthy and Loving Life, about the importance of discussing health issues with your close friends.

The evenings breakout sessions featured many members of our expert medical staff, including:
  • Womens Image: The benefits of nutrition and fitness for beauty, skin health and confidence with Dr. Mark Tracy, physiatrist, and Dr. Roxanne Sylora, plastic surgeon.

  • Womens Body: A focus on women and their sexual health with Dr. Denise Elser, urogynecologist; Dr. Olga Ivanov, breast surgeon, and Dr. Travis Haldeman, OB/GYN.

  • Womens Spirit: Discussions on the spiritual, mental and emotional well-being of women with Dr. Traci Powell, psychiatrist.

  • Parenting Issues: Learn strategies for navigating the challenges of parenting with parenting expert Dr. Christopher Higgins.

Guests enjoyed wine and hors doeuvres reception before the evenings speakers.

With a new focus on gender-sensitive medicine for women through all stages of their lives, Little Company of Mary is building a new future for women in the Southwest Chicago area. It is embarking on the development of a new women's center dedicated to helping women live their fullest through healthy minds, bodies and spirits.

While we're planning our women's center, we'd like to help you get started on your journey to health. You may want to check out these resources. In your searches, type the words "review" or "meta-analysis" to bring up articles that summarize all the research out there on a treatment:

the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM)

University of Maryland School of Medicine's Center for Integrative Medicine, which has an extensive on-line library

The National Library of Medicine or
