How long does the surgery take?
Gastric bypass surgery typically
requires 2-3 hours in the operating room. Lap-Band�(r) surgery typically requires one hour in the operating room.

How long is the hospital stay?
Gastric bypass surgery usually requires 2 - 3 days in the hospital while lap-band surgery requires 24 hours.
How soon can I get out of bed?
It is expected that you sit up in a
chair six hours after surgery and begin taking several walks the next day. After you leave the hospital you will be able to
care for all your personal needs, but will need help with transportation.
How soon can I drive?
We recommend you wait a minimum of 2 weeks
after surgery before driving. You must have stopped taking any narcotic medication and be able to safely and alertly drive
your car.
When can I return to work?
Within 1 to 6 weeks depending on the amount of physical activity your job requires.
What non-surgical complications are associated with Gastric Bypass?
Hair loss, vomiting, intolerance to some foods, vitamin and mineral deficiency are some of the complications. All of these side effects can be resolved or avoided by taking multivitamins daily and by following a good nutrition plan and careful eating. |
